Hanyang University held the 2020 HYU Academic Award and Industry-University-Research Cooperation Award on February 18 in the Administration Building.

The HYU Academic Award grants researchers who largely contributed to the enhancement of the university's status through world-class research results and awards the title of HYU master's professor in the second award.

A total of 7 professors were selected in the 2020 HYU Award winners: Engineering Sector ¡âProfessor Kim Sun-jung (School of Electrical and Biomedical Engineering) ¡âProfessor Jang Gun-hee (School of Mechanical Engineering) ¡âProfessor Kim Do-hwan (Department of Chemical Engineering)

Science/Medical Sector ¡âProfessor Hong Jin-pyo (Department of Physics) ¡âProfessor Choi Dong-ho (Department of Medicine), and Humanities/Social Studies Sector ¡âProfessor Park Chan-seung (Department of History ¡âProfessor Hyun Sung-hyeop ( School of Tourism)

Engineering Sector Professor Kim Sun-jung is a world-class authority in the artificial muscle field and was awarded after developing an ¡°electricity self-producing thread¡± and publishing in the SCIENCE Journal in 2017, winning the CES Innovation Award with ¡°self-generated structural signaling device¡± in 2019, and developing a ¡°unipolar artificial muscle 3 times stronger when compared to previous artificial muscles¡± and publishing in the SCIENCE Journal in 2021.

Engineering Sector Professor Jang Gun-hee was awarded for developing the ¡°microrobot system for treating brain, heart, and peripheral vascular occlusion disease¡±,  for being selected as one of the top 10 machine technologies by the Korean Federation of Machine Technology in 2018, for publishing multiple papers in the top 0.8% of international journals in the machine field, and for securing 30 domestic and international patents.

Engineering Sector Professor Kim Do-hwan was awarded for developing the ¡°ultra-sensitivity ionotropic skin imitating human skin¡±, for being selected as one of the top 10 nanotechnologies in 2017, for being selected as ¡°Research of the Month¡± by the National Research Foundation of Korea, and for being awarded the Major Academic Award at the Macromolecular Research in 2020.

Science/Medical Sector Professor Hong Jin-pyo developed ¡°high-elasticity energy-generating fiber that produces energy with body movement¡±, which is applicable to mobile wearable devices and was awarded for being published in the Advanced Energy Materials and selected for the back cover, and for being selected for excellent research results of the 2020 Korean electric power corporation (KEPCO) based business.

Science/Medical Sector Professor Choi Dong-ho developed, ¡°The first human liver stem cell re-programming method using low molecular weight compound¡± to establish Korea's independent technique and received the award for enhancing effectiveness (reduced cost by 4 times when compared to previous technologies), and for enhancing safety (secured more than 20 times when compared to previous technologies).

Humanities/Social Sector Professor Park Chan-seung was awarded for putting together issues of 2019 Korean history academia and for being selected as the excellent book with '21st Century Careers in Korean History¡±, which deals with future paths within the Korean history's academic world, for being selected as the Sejong Book by publishing ¡°1919-Korea's First Spring¡± to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the March First Independence Movement in 2019.

Humanities/Social Sector Professor Hyun Sung-hyeop made attempts to converge the three academics of landscaping, psychiatry, and tourism and was awarded for publishing 60 SSCI-level research papers since 2017.

The Industry-University-Research Cooperation Award was first made in 2021 to award young professors who highly contributed in succeeding Hanyang University's ¡°pragmatic learning¡± to practically serve  society and greatly contributed to Industry-University-Research Cooperation with leading research results.

This year's award winner was Professor Kim Doo-ri (Department of Chemistry)

Professor Kim Doo-ri was awarded for developing, for the first time at Hanyang University research lab, the high-tech, ultra-high-definition microscope ¡°STORM Device¡± and the next-generation high definition microscope device ¡°SR-STORM¡±, for being selected in the POSCO Cheongam Fellowship, for winning the ¡°Future Talent Award¡± at 2018 The Korean Women's Federation of Science and Technology Societies, and for building industry-university-academic cooperation with diverse industries such as Samsung.

President Kim Woo-seung, at the Award Ceremony, said that ¡°I hope the winners of today's ceremony can make more efforts to help Hanyang University to become a helpful university to society by actively commercializing the university's research results as a leader of industry-university-academic cooperation with the best and first Industry-University-Academic Cooperation Foundation in Korea and establishing technology holding companies.
