Professor Chang Joon-hyuk

Hanyang University announced on July 7th that professor Chang Joon-hyuk's research team from the School of Electronic Engineering recently became the runner-up in Acoustic Scene Classification field in Detection and Classification of Acoustic Scenes and Events Challenge (DCASE Challenge 2022).

The Hanyang University research team, consisting of Lee Ju-hyeon, Choi Jung-hwan,  Byun Bill-moo, Master¡¯s and Ph.D. students (supervised professor Chang Joon-hyuk), participated in Acoustic Scene field, where participants conducted task of analyzing short acoustic signals recorded with various kinds of devices and classifying 10 places such as park and subway.
In particular, this competition has become more difficult than before, with the added condition that "the one-second short sounds sould be analyzed with limited computation and computing power."

The research team made excellent research outcome by designing optimal models with the self-developed models based on Fine-tuning that can be applied to various types of devices. As a result, the research team ranked first in detection accuracy and ranked second in the end. This is the best performance among domestic universities and institutions.

Professor Chang Joon-hyuk said, ¡°We have made another international research achievement, after recently succeeded in publishing 10 papers in INTERSPEECH, the most famous academic conference in the voice AI field, the After the achievement of publishing 10 articles in INTERSPEECH.¡±

Meanwhile, the DCASE Challenge, which has been held since 2013, is a contest organized by AASP under the world¡¯s largest Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), in which 19 prominent institutions and universities have participated and competed in six fields including acoustic scene classification and diagnosis of machine abnormalities for the last 4 months.
