Inerter and drive motor to be studied at motor group

While Hyundai Motor and Kia established a joint research lab for electrification systems with 11 universities in Korea to secure electrification technology, Professor Yoon Young-doo¡¯s team of Hanyang University's Department of Automotive Engineering and Professor Lim Myung-seop's team was on the list of participants.

Professor Yoon's team will conduct joint research projects on improving electric vehicle MPGe (miles per gallon gasoline equivalent, average distance covered per energy consumed in electric vehicles) and high-performance control technology with a total of six researchers in the inverter group.

Professor Lim's team will work with four researchers in the drive motor group to develop ultra-dense motors and study new materials and new cooling technologies to develop ultra-small and highest-efficiency driving systems.

Meanwhile, researchers from major universities will form a coalition for each field of power electronics (PE) parts to study next-generation technologies for the competitiveness of the electric vehicles of Hyundai Motor and Kia. Universities participating in the joint laboratory will carry out specialized research tasks, secure professional capabilities in the field of electric vehicle PE parts, and foster talent suitable for the era of electrification.
