Data-driven, AI-aided Molecular Modeling and Drug Design

Hanyang University's Hanyang Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (HY-IBB, Director, Professor Bae Sang-cheol) held a joint international symposium titled "Data-driven, AI-aided Molecular Modeling and Drug Design" on June 19th at the Automotive Research Center at Hanyang University, in collaboration with Institution for Artificial Intelligence Research (HY-AIR, Director, Professor Paek Eun-ok) and Institute of Precision Therapeutics (HY-IPT, Director, Professor Seo Hye-myung).

The symposium was divided into three sessions: "AI-based Molecular Modeling and Design," "AI-assisted Drug Development and Design," and "Drug Development Utilizing AI Platforms," with invited speakers consisting of distinguished scholars in each field.

Distinguished scholars who participated as keynote speakers in this international symposium included Professor Cho Kyung-hyun from New York University, Professor Noh Yung-kyun from Hanyang University, Martin Steinngger from Seoul National University, Professor Baek Min-kyung from Seoul National University, Dr. Zhou Yaoqi from the Shenzhen Bay Laboratory, Professor Kim Woo-youn from KAIST, Professor Nam Ho-jung from GIST, Professor Kim Dong-sup from KAIST, Professor Jeon Min-ji from Korea University, Professor Lee Deok-sun from the Korea Institute for Advanced Study, and Professor Yang Chul-su from Hanyang University.

Over 100 participants, including researchers from five countries, people from the Ministry of Defense, industry, and broadcasting networks, attended the symposium both online and offline. Professor Nam Jin-wu from the Department of Life Science at Hanyang University,(Deputy Director of HY-IBB), who planned the event stated, "With the desire and ambition of Hanyang University to promote public health and contribute to the development of the bio-industry, the three major research institutes of Bio, Medicine, and AI have jointly organized this symposium." He further added, "We hope to expand the scope of AI-bio research and activate research on data-driven AI-based protein structure design and drug development through various interdisciplinary studies, thereby contributing to the digital transformation of bioresearch."
